Introduction letter to Parents
Westwood’s annual Spell-a-thon is one of the largest fundraisers for our school raising nearly 17% of PTA’s annual operating income. Spell-a-Thon combines’ academic activity and fundraising to make it a win -win situation both for the school and children. Our children will be challenged to expand their spelling prowess, while raising funds to bolster our school’s enriched academic offerings like Fun run, Art corps, Reading program, Math/science, year book, technology education, and many more. This is the primary fall fundraiser for the PTA.
It is designed so that family members, relatives, close friends or businesses may sponsor your child. They may pledge as much as they can afford, or may sponsor a lump sum. All donations are 100% Tax deductible.
For parents new to Westwood, this is a unique way of raising funds for our school. The academic and social areas of our curriculum that are incorporated into the Spell-A-Thon are:
Language Arts: Listening, reading, writing
Personal Growth: Self-esteem and personal interaction
HOW SPELL-A-THON WORKS
- Students receive a spelling list to study for the big day!
- Students collect pledges
- Students take the test on October 17th. (Remember to study!)
We encourage each student to raise a minimum of $40 to achieve our minimum goal of $15,000. Each level sponsor will be listed and thanked on our sponsors wall.
Please remember to return all pledge sheets on or before October 16th.
